System Description
Computing Requirements BEAMS and COLUMNS and PLANS and ELEVATIONS and the STAIRS programs work within AutoCAD release 2000 or greater. No other hardware is required other then that which is used for AutoCAD.
Training Extensive training in AutoCAD in not required. All icons (small pictures on the toolbars with tool tips) are easily recognized by experienced detailers.
Rapid User Acceptance In order to make the system easily adapted by steel and miscellaneous metal detailers without extensive computer experience, the detailing procedure follows the same sequence of events that are used when manual methods are employed.

A unique dimensional input system reduces keystrokes and reduces the opportunity for errors. Dimensions only require the use of digits without foot marks, dashes or other separators. Dimensions can be entered with the keyboard or with our unique on screen dialog boxes with a single key stroke.

The system uses the same logical steps that a detailer uses when detailing manually. This makes the learning process quite logical and very fast. Like manual drafting, you can see your results as you go along. If you change your mind you can change the detail at that point. If you have to add unusual or special fittings they can be created and added when the beam is detailed. You don't have to go back to manually add special fittings by drawing lines.

Project Management The drawing management system automatically keeps all drawings and material lists in project directories. Drawings can be recalled at any time for further work or revisions. Project fittings and Bill of Material items are accumulated automatically as drawings are created within SteelLOGIC®.
Fitting Marks Fitting marks can be carried from sheet to sheet and  fitting descriptions  entered in the bill of material without the user reentering them. A Fitting Translation Table will automatically use the correct mark for different clients.
Sloping Beams and Fittings Sloping beams with square or beveled ends and skewed or sloping fittings can be created and dimensioned automatically. Column splice plates are y created and installed at the touch of a button. Base plates and cap plates are automatically created and fully dimensioned and remembered. They will be drawn by the system on subsequent columns by entering the mark.

Projected views of sloping cap plates are drawn by the system without user intervention. Column shear connections, are completely detailed by the system including the extension dimensions and the projected view on the adjacent column face.

Fittings Angles, Plates, Pipe and Tubes can be drawn at any size, in any direction by a few clicks of a button.
Drawing Management Reference information about floor elevations for detailing columns only has to be entered once for a project.  Information such as sheet size, hole size, edge distance, standard spacing and location of the members on the sheet, can be placed in a start up file so that it need not be reentered every time a new sheet is started.
Material Management

Bills of material are automatically created and can be printed, with a variety of styles without leaving the drawing editor. A comprehensive cutting list for all material can be printed at any time.

Object Library The system includes a variety of detailing symbols, notes, holes, bolts, slots, and anchors to put all the necessary tools at the fingertips of the detailer.
User Extendable A full function feet and inches calculator is available which includes bevels, slopes and rises. All details are created at a scale of 1" = 1'-0'. Profiles of rolled shapes and special details can be created at any scale. User created routines can be added.
Enlarged Details Enlarged scale details can be created without concern about scaling factors or text sizes.
Automation All members are drawn automatically, including end views and top views. All dimensions are entered automatically with a variety of options.
Shape Database Rolled shapes are selected from a menu that has access to a standard data base. This information which includes all the physical dimensions can be printed on the drawing, for reference, so that the checker does not have to look it up again. The AISC database is included with SteelLOGIC. The user may extend the data table with additional shapes and sizes.
Comprehensive The SteelLOGIC system allows you to complete the entire detail no matter how complex. It is not necessary to complete complicated or unusual details by hand or by drawing with a CAD system.
How it Works Beams are detailed by selecting the primary member and the supporting members, from the data base, through the use of a pull-down menu. Upon command, and after responding to a few questions, the beam will be drawn, all blocks or copes, overall and cut length dimensions and reference dimensions will be added and the beam will then automatically be placed in the bill of material, with user control over where it goes. Framing angles, end holes in the flange or web can then automatically be added to the beam with all detail and extension other accouterments can be added to the beam and to the bill of material, through use of the system.

Fittings for standard seats, stiffened seats, shear plates, base plates, cap plates, shear angles, knife connections, through plates and splice plates are automatically created and dimensioned by the system. Extension dimensions to all fittings and hole groups from the bottom of the column or the left end of the beam are automatically inserted by the system.
All calculations for bracing are done within the system and gusset plates are created, dimensioned and billed without the necessity of layouts or calculations. Any structural element can be created by the system without resorting to 'drawing'.
